" Declare war on cartels "

In early November, three women and six children from a US-based Mormon community in northern Mexico were killed in an attack attributed to the highly influential cartels in the border region.

" If Mexico needs or asks for help to get rid of these monsters, the United States is ready, willing and able to commit to doing the job quickly and efficiently, " Trump had tweeted.

About 26,000 people have died in Mexico since the beginning of the year, with the spread of violence likely to lead to a new record in 2019. Washington calls on Mexico City to " declare war " on cartels.

But for the Mexican government, as for legislators and political parties, there is no question of accepting that drug cartels are considered terrorist organizations.

This would imply that the United States could incurs in Mexican territory, which could be seen as a first step towards military intervention.
