27 November 2019Trenitalia (FS Italiane Group) won the high-speed services Madrid - Barcelona, ​​Madrid - Valencia / Alicante and Madrid - Malaga / Seville. The Ilsa consortium, composed of Trenitalia and Air Nostrum, reports a note, was selected by Adif, the Spanish railway infrastructure manager, as the first private operator to enter the Iberian market. The start of the commercial service is scheduled for January 2022 and will last for ten years.

The offer for Spain
The Ilsa consortium will offer 32 daily connections on the Madrid - Barcelona route (16 in each direction). The Madrid - Valencia route will have eight connections a day, seven will be both between Madrid and Malaga and between Madrid and Seville. From Madrid to Alicante, instead, there will be four daily connections, which can be increased during the peak summer weeks. The train chosen by Ilsa is the Frecciarossa 1000 manufactured with eco-sustainable technologies and equipped with aerodynamic design. The five routes awarded will be served thanks to a fleet of 23 trains.

The international Trenitalia network
Trenitalia is present with subsidiaries in Great Britain with Trenitalia c2c (commuter transport) and Trenitalia Uk which from 9 December 2019 will operate InterCity services from London to Glasgow / Edinburgh (West Coast Partnership); in Germany with Netinera (passengers); in France with Thello (international connections Italy - France) and in Greece with TrainOse (passenger services). The Frecciarossa 1000, the flagship train of the Trenitalia fleet and the fastest in Europe, was designed and built according to the international technical interoperability specifications that allow the train to be able to circulate on several European networks. It is the first high speed train to have obtained the environmental impact certification and is built with almost 100% recyclable and reusable materials, as well as having reduced water and electricity consumption.
