US President Donald Trump on Monday received an unusual White House guest, Dog Conan, who was involved in the hunt for the killing of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in October.

"This is Conan, at the moment he is probably the most famous dog in the world," Trump said, with his wife Melania and his deputy Mike Pence standing next to him.

Conan, a Belgian dog serving in the US military, was wounded in the killing of Baghdadi.

"We are honored to host Conan here and give him a certificate and a medal that will be suspended in the White House," Trump said.

"Conan has been badly hurt, but in fact he has recovered very quickly, and until now he is doing very important operations."

"This dog is amazing, wonderful and very intelligent, he did a great job, and we are honored
Very be with us here. "

The president dismissed rumors that Conan would retire, saying he had many good years to serve, calling him a "fierce fighter."

"Conan is really a hero," said Mike Pence.
