One person has died and more than a hundred have been injured due to an earthquake of a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale that has shaken Albania and has had several major aftershocks.

According to the Albanian Geosciences Institute, the earthquake occurred at 03.54 local time (02.54 GMT), and its epicenter was located in the Adriatic Sea , 10 kilometers north of the city of Durres, and 40 kilometers west of Tirana, with a depth of 38 kilometers.

Many buildings have collapsed and the inhabitants of the affected cities have panicked into the street.

Authorities reported that there is at least one dead and about 150 people are receiving medical assistance in hospitals in Tirana and Durres.
