He stated this at a press conference following a meeting with a colleague from Nepal, Kumar Gyavali.

“Let me remind you that a meeting of the constitutional committee was already ready a little over a year ago, we could start all the processes that began in October this year in December last, but our Western colleagues from the so-called small group on Syria directly rudely forced the UN leadership to refuse from supporting this process, and this led to a delay of our common efforts by almost ten months, ”Lavrov said.

He emphasized that there is a threat of external interference in the process of resolving the situation; these attempts directly contradict UN Security Council resolution 2254.

“Our UN colleagues, including the Secretary-General and his special envoy, Mr. Pedersen, are obliged to harshly suppress such attempts,” the minister added.

Earlier, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Syria, Geir Pedersen, said that a new meeting of the Syrian constitutional committee will be held in Geneva on November 25.
