Two members of the Rassemblement Action Jeunesse (RAJ) were indicted Sunday for undermining national unity and unauthorized assembly. Among them, the secretary general of the RAJ, Fouad Ouicher, who was placed under arrest warrant. Both were arrested on Friday as part of the weekly protest in Algiers. This is not the first time that members of this association have been arrested.

About ten members of the Rassemblement action jeunesse are currently detained in Algeria, including its founder, its president, and now its secretary general.

They are among dozens of people, more than 130 according to the latest count of the National Committee for the release of detainees, currently imprisoned in connection with the Hirak.

The RAJ is a citizen association, active with the Algerian youth.
It is also very active on the social networks, and in the demonstrations since the beginning of the movement of protest which continues to mobilize against the presidential one of December 12th , and against the system in place.

Some observers explain that RAJ members have been considered leaders, particularly because of their interventions in debates or in the media abroad.

Human rights activists in Algeria say that through these arrests, it is simply the civil society that is targeted to try to silence the discordant voices, in the run-up to the poll, citing arrests in other citizen organizations.
