At the plenary session of the Sami Parliament in Örnsköldsvik in February, it was decided that the parliament's parliament building should be placed in Östersund. The question had then been investigated for 15 years.

But quite soon after the decision, a motion was submitted to the Sami Parliament demanding a referendum on the issue of placement.

Now it seems that a referendum will not be lost. At its meeting in Östersund in September, the Board of the Sami Parliament decided to propose to the Sami Parliament to reject the motion. The Sami Parliament has no rules for how a referendum should be conducted.

No question in principle

In addition, the Board believes that the question of the Parliament House's placement is not of such a fundamental or principled importance that it would justify a referendum.

The issue is decided by the plenary session of the Sami Parliament, held November 25-28 in Haparanda.
