The Superior Council of the Judiciary dismissed the public prosecutor on Friday. The proliferation of arrests and these custody in the context of a "clean hands" operation worried the Gabonese opposition.

We do not yet know the reasons for the dismissal of Olivier Nzaou. On the other hand, we know that a large " clean hands " operation is underway in Gabon. Many executives in the public and parapublic administration are in police custody, suspected of corruption and money laundering.

The sacking of the prosecutor in crisis is a bad signal, says the opponent Alexandre Barro Chambrier. The President of the Rally for the Fatherland and Modernity (RPM) doubts the effectiveness of the clean hands operation at the origin of the serial arrests: " We are told that there are suspicions of embezzlement of public funds, corruption, money laundering. These are serious subjects, stresses Alexandre Barro Chambrier. We would like this to not give the impression of a clamor set in motion to divert attention to the real subjects. All this challenges us on who actually governs Gabon today. "

Those close to power are rather discreet. For his part, Eric Simon Zue, general secretary of the citizen movement My Gabon asks the courts to deliver justice on behalf of the people and for the people. " It is imperative that the Gabonese people know: is the allegedly diverted money returned to the state? And if so, what are we doing with it? "

The first steps of the new public prosecutor André Patrick Roponat will be very scrutinized.
