17 January 2019Bomb car bombing in Colombia, in Bogotá, inside the "General Santander" Police School.

According to the newspaper "El Tiempo", the balance is at least 10 dead and over 50 injured. The driver of the car also died.

Testimonials collected by Colombian media have allowed us to reconstruct the dynamics. A dog trained in the detection of explosives warned something suspicious about a van that was entering from the visitors' gate. Once discovered, the driver accelerated sharply, overwhelming an agent and crashing the vehicle, which exploded, against the entrance of an internal compound of the compound. Sources of Colombian intelligence have suggested that the bomber proposed to park the van and then detonate it with a remote control. But, faced with the intervention of the dog unit, he had to change his plan.

Authorities report that some wounded were taken to the El Túnal hospital, and others to the Olaya polyclinic. The school is located south of the capital and there is training for officers of the National Police.

The Attorney General, Néstor Humberto Martínez, then stated that the bomber was identified: this is José Aldemar Rojas Rodríguez. It is not known if it belonged to an armed group.

President Iván Duque was visiting Quibdó, in the west of the country, and announced the immediate return to the capital, reaffirming his commitment to fighting terrorism:

Vamos al lugar de los hechos. He die órdenes a la Fuerza Pública para determinar los autores de este ataque y llevarlos a la justicia. Todos los Colombianos rechazamos el terrorismo y estamos unidos para enfrentarlo. COLOMBIA if entristece but not if doblega ante la violencia.

Vice President Marta Lucía Ramírez expressed solidarity with the police on Twitter:
