Its epicenter was located at a point with coordinates of 43.8 degrees north latitude and 147.4 east longitude - 124 km east of Yuzhno-Kurilsk (a regional center on Kunashir Island), ”RIA Novosti reports from the Sakhalin branch of the Unified Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

It is noted that the source of the earthquake was at a depth of 51 km.

Earlier it was reported that an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 occurred near the Kuril Islands.
