For over 30 years, only three women have been the main act at Ullevi. The last woman to play at Ullevi was Madonna in 2012. Before her, Tina Turner and Pink have been the main act on the scene. Following Svt News's West feature, we have received many reactions. Here are some of the comments:

- I go to experience the artist, not the gender! / Rickard

- Why don't more women book Ullevi? Do they prefer Stockholm, Oslo or Copenhagen? / Erik

- Name five female artists who fill an Ullevi! / Niklas

- Can't female artists book Ullevi? How many women have tried to book and received no? / Osborn

"The industry has lifted men"

Tina Mehrafzoon is a music journalist on Swedish Radio and says she thinks the topic is a lot of reactions because it is a loaded question.

- Equality is more current than ever and especially in the music industry. After #Metoo, the discussion has taken to another level. You dare say and challenge in discussions today, says Tina Mehrafzoon.

Why do you think it looks like this?

- I think it has to do with the combination of having an industry that lifts men if you look at the past decades. It is not the industry's fault but a depiction of reality. We have a very strong music scene in Sweden, but we are also a small country, with many strong Swedish artists. I can understand why an international artist does not play in more arenas in the country but chooses one. There is also internal competition between the arenas, she says.

Do female artists refuse to play at Ullevi?

- I think few artists would say no to such a big chance. But they must also be given the conditions to make their vision a reality. I can't imagine anyone refusing an arena show. Even the most shadowy artist wants their music to be heard. Then whether it is Ullevi, Friends Arena or any other arena I think does not matter, says Tina Mehrafzoon.

Ullevi not unique

She says that when it comes to international artists, Ullevi competes against other arenas in Sweden and the world. And there it is not certain that the artists have the opportunity to play in more arenas in a small country like Sweden.

- The most common thing is that the big acts from Sweden do not invest in making big arena plays here at home in Sweden but take a step further and invest internationally.

Is Ullevi unique in this matter?

- It is absolutely not isolated to Gothenburg or Ullevi. This problem exists throughout Sweden. You get curious how it turns out that there are no female artists on these scenes when we obviously have them. Then it is nothing but a quality issue. This is what makes you need to talk about this. Why does it look like this? It is about conditions. It's not about us picking off Bruce or Håkan. But arenas and organizers must offer something different. There is no doubt that Veronica Maggio or Beyoncé would fill Ullevi - but then they must have the right conditions.
