According to Interfax, citing data from the operational processing of the Altai-Sayan branch of the Geophysical Service, the epicenter was 23 km south of the southern tip of Selaru Island (Tanimbar Archipelago, Indonesia), 431 km north of the city of Darwin in Australia.

No damage was reported.

It was previously reported that an earthquake of magnitude 6.1 occurred in Laos in the Tchalom Pra Kiat area.
