27 February 2017The president of Palermo, Maurizio Zamparini, has resigned.

"Within fifteen days the new president, member and representative of an Anglo-American fund will be appointed, who has contractually committed to investing in Zamparini group projects with priority in Palermo football investments and in sports facilities to be built, stadium and sports center ", reads a note.

"The objective of the investors - he concludes - will be to bring the club back to the position that the city deserves, the European one, with a 3-5 year program".

The Zamparini era certainly remains the best experienced to date by a club that has a 117-year long history and that today celebrates the 110th birthday of its own colors. The story between Zamparini and Palermo began on July 21st 2002 when the club was taken over by Franco Sensi and in a definitely singular way, with the transfer of players and coach (Ezio Glerean) from the withdrawal of Venice to the Rosanero one.

At the end of that season, Palermo finished the cadet championship in fifth place, but the appointment with the promotion, expected 31 years, was postponed by only one year when the team led by Francesco Guidolin ended the tournament in first place . The rise had just begun because in the first year of Serie A Palermo reached for the first time in its history the qualification in the Uefa Cup, a goal repeated also in the two following seasons in which the team closed respectively at 6 and twice a 5 place in the top league.

The fifteen years of Zamparini have seen a Palermo where there have been many players like Luca Toni, Eugenio Corini, Andrea Barzagli, Fabio Grosso, Edinson Cavani, Javier Pastore, Paulo Dybala and Franco Vazquez, just to mention the most representative. The rest is the story of endless bench changes, continuous destabilization and lack of a real project.
