The film by French director Olivier Assayas "Cuban Network", on the true story of a network of Cuban spies in the United States, will be presented in December in Havana, on the occasion of the Latin American film festival, announced Wednesday the organizers.

Co-production between France, Brazil, Spain and Belgium, "Cuban Network" ("Wasp Network" in English), with Penelope Cruz, Edgar Ramirez, Wagner Moura and Gael Garcia Bernal, tells the true story of 'A group of five Cuban spies settled in Miami (USA) in the early 1990s.

Sentenced in 2001 for espionage, they were released between 2013 and 2014 and are known in Cuba as the "five heroes".

Filmed largely in Cuba last spring, the film was in competition at the Venice Film Festival. It will be shown on the island on the occasion of the Latin American International Film Festival, from December 5 to 15, where it will be out of competition.

In total, 21 films will compete for this 21st edition.

Founded in 1979, the festival peaked in the late 1980s and projected some 500 films in 88 theaters in Havana, in which crowded half a million spectators. Its budget has since been sharply reduced, economic crisis forces.

The 41 edition will pay homage to the Italian director Federico Fellini (1920-1993) and will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Cinema (Icaic, public).
