Municipalities and regions with better better conditions relative to the population and geography should give money to those who are relatively poorer. That is the idea of the cost equalization system.

"I am not in any way against equalization, it is an important element in a modern society with municipal autonomy but it must be combined with increased general contributions and we will push hard on the Social Democrat-led government," says Anders Teljebäck, chairman of the local council.

Since it will apply from 2020 and will have major consequences for many municipalities, they will receive implementation grants over the next three years. Therefore, only 38 million Västerås needs to pay in the coming year.

- This will have major consequences for the western roses, says opposition councilor Elisabeth Unell (M), who does not at all think that the municipality should reduce the result but rather the framework.

- It is serious considering that we are going into bad times and we have large investments and with that comes operating costs. It has to be funded.
