For the past three years, ambulance personnel have been cooperating with police on about 400 depleted cases. In about ten cases per year, staff have themselves reported that they have suffered either physical or verbal threats.

- Percentage this is a very low figure, but it is clear that there are ten cases for many. Then there can also be a large dark figure, says Jani Sundqvist, operations manager for ambulance care in Västerbotten.

Quiet compared to other parts of the country

Sundqvist says that it is a challenge for ambulance personnel to deal with people who may be threatened by substances or illness.

- That is why we have threat and violence training together with the police for our staff and we also have instructions on how to act in threatening work situations.

At the same time, he points out that the working environment is safer than elsewhere in the country.

- If you look nationally, there are some areas that have more high-risk areas. This type of problem is not found here in Västerbotten. However, we can see that if you look further back, such cases have become more common, even if the situation is not extreme.
