Iraqi demonstrators continued yesterday, blocking all roads leading to oil fields and sites, in the district of Zubair west of the city of Basra, in protest against the deterioration of the economic situation in the country despite its huge oil resources.

The demonstrators prevented employees from accessing the oil sites, which export 70% of Iraq's oil.

Meanwhile, hit-and-run operations and control of bridges and squares between Iraqi demonstrators and Iraqi security and anti-riot forces continue in many areas of Iraq.

The Iraqi riot police regained control on Al-Ahrar Bridge, the third largest bridge in Baghdad, which was held by demonstrators against corruption and the ruling elite, which they accuse of "labor" of Iran.

This came after the Israeli forces launched a surprise campaign accompanied by heavy firing of tear gas canisters at the demonstrators, to force them to withdraw from the center of the bridge.

Angry protesters in Iraq have continued their demonstrations since early October, despite new promises made by large political blocs.

Several Iraqi political blocs, representing key parties in the government, met the day before yesterday and issued proposals for reform steps until the end of the year.
