Al-Shehhi, on the sidelines of a seminar held in the framework of a legal awareness campaign jointly with the Community Development Authority in the Rashidiya Council, narrated the case of a merchant with four sons who were an example of commitment and religiosity during the preparatory stage, performing prayers on time and diligently in their studies, and suddenly their situation was reversed in adolescence.

He added that one of them started to use drugs and then dragged the rest of his brothers, to turn the house into hell, and his sons who were righteous, and turned to addicts assaulting him to get money to buy drugs, and the family ended in the death of the first son from a virus that he transmitted because of abuse, and the second AIDS, while the prison was the fate of the latter two.

Al-Shehhi pointed out that «the new amendment in the anti-drug law, the opportunity to treatment for children if the father or mother or any member of the family of the individual addicted for treatment».

He added in the session, which was held under the title «not knowing the law does not exempt you from legal accountability», that there is an important point regarding the anti-drug law, which allows to report the son addicted, is the need to mention the amount that he wants to subject his son to treatment, pointing out that what Parents often report when a problem occurs because of their addicted son, such as assaulting a family member or causing chaos at home. They call the police and ask for intervention to protect them.

He explained that this was not a request for treatment, and could not legally benefit from article 43, because the amount was not communicated when he learned that the son or relative was taking drugs, but resorted to the authorities concerned when a problem occurred.

Al-Shehhi stressed that the state did not fail to protect children from the dangers of drugs, and made amendments to the law, to secure the future of the person, especially if the first time abuse, former users of cannabis is the perpetrator of a felony worth four years imprisonment, but turned into a misdemeanor in the new law, and the penalty is a fine, The amendments also stipulated that no precedent should be registered for the first time so as not to affect his future.

He stressed that education is a major factor in the involvement of young people in drugs, and has become much harder than the past.For the past, the family, neighbor and school, all raising the son, but under social networks, and ease of use of the Internet became more aware of the young man in the 20 generations of previous generations.

He pointed out that bad friends are a major source of abuse, the addict loves companionship, and is keen to drag others to the trap that fell in order not to be alone.

4 rehabilitation centers

The State has constructed four specialized rehabilitation centers, open to anyone who voluntarily applies or is reported to one of his family for treatment without taking legal action against him, as well as providing means of rehabilitation within penal and correctional institutions, to ensure the ease of integration of drug users into society after leaving and lead a normal life.

He added that there are indications that appear on the son and must pay attention to them, such as convergence and the demand for money on a continuous basis, and the emergence of some signs of his health and delayed study and aggression.

He pointed out that the new amendments, especially related to the easing of some of the sanctions, prevented the future of the sons of the mere experience of drug abuse once, as it represents an opportunity to rectify the error, and gives the family hope to contain it again, and preserve it.

He explained that the first-time abuser or the newly released prisoner is subjected to periodic examination, to ensure his recovery and observation of his behavior, so as not to re-addiction again, and there are measures taken against the person who fails without excuse for periodic examination.
