According to the human rights organization Amnesty, at least 106 people have died - and death figures are expected to rise. This is after the extensive protests that started in the country last Friday.

The protests were triggered after a message that the government was abandoning gasoline subsidies in the country. This is a consequence of the sanctions that have been directed at the country and entails large increases in the gasoline price.

In about 40 cities, hundreds of Iranians have since expressed anger over poor living standards, state corruption and increased gaps between rich and poor.
