US Central Bank President Jerome Powell reminded President Donald Trump on Monday that monetary policy decisions were taking place outside political considerations at a meeting in the White House, the Fed said.

Jerome Powell said his colleagues in the Monetary Committee and himself will continue to establish monetary policy in accordance with the Fed's legal prerogatives, namely to support maximum employment and stable prices, the institution said in a statement.

They will make decisions "based solely on careful, objective and non-political analysis," the text adds.

For his part, the Republican president reported "a very good meeting and a cordial meeting at the White House with Jay (Jerome) Powell" in an unusually friendly tweet.

"We discussed everything including interest rates, negative rates, low inflation, the strengthening of the dollar and its effects on the manufacturing sector, trade with China, the EU and others, etc.", added Donald Trump who has often violently criticized the decisions of the Fed and his boss, which he himself named.

A few months ago, the White House host even said on Twitter that he regretted the appointment and blamed the Fed for the economic slowdown in the United States.

In a second tweet Monday evening, however, Donald Trump said he regretted during the meeting that "our Fed rate is too high compared to the interest rates of other competing countries." "A dollar too strong that harms industry and growth!", He added.

The meeting, which was held on Monday to discuss the economy, growth, jobs and inflation, was held at the request of the President and in the presence of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, said the Fed. She points out that Mr. Powell has been sticking to the statements he made during his congressional hearings last week.

"He has not discussed his expectations of monetary policy, except to emphasize that the trajectory of the policy will depend entirely on information received that affect the economic outlook," insisted the institution.

The previous meeting between Mr. Trump and Mr. Powell was in February.
