After stalling last year, French President Emmanuel Macron went on Tuesday, November 19 to the Mayors Congress where he denounced the communitarianism.

Upon arrival, they rose in silence. A year after having seen their congress sulk by Emmanuel Macron, the mayors of France were waiting to see what the president was going to tell them. " I need you ", he told them in an hour-long speech, on the economy, security, education, social, health, ecological transition or the defense of the values of the Republic.

On this point, the head of state denounced " a project of separation from the Republic " that some mayors live in their commune. " These are the demands on the hours reserved for women in swimming pools, these public spaces where mixing is no longer possible. Each time, mayors are in the front line, "said Emmanuel Macron.

But no question for the president to ban community lists, as the right would like. The patron of Senators Republicans Bruno Retailleau has indeed tabled on November 8 a bill to fight against the "communitarian lists", in full controversy on this subject and the veil, in the wake of the debate on immigration to Parliament wanted by the head of state.

The text aims in particular to prevent the filing of lists or the financing of candidates leading a " communitarian campaign " and supporting claims " based on ethnic origin or religious affiliation ". But in the face of the community electoral lists, " it is not a matter of proclaiming the ban to solve the problem, " said Emmanuel Macron, stressing the difficulty of identifying them.

For the president, the essential thing is to "bring down the masks of those who develop a communitarian project ". A fight he wants to lead with the mayors.
