Canada is the first country to advance to the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup after defeating the United States on Tuesday in Madrid after two singles, which follows the one achieved the day before at the expense of Italy .

With two wins, the Canadians are assured of first place in Group F. They will play in the quarter-finals against Belgium or Australia who compete for first place in Group D.

As on Monday, Canada won both singles thanks to Vasek Pospisil who beat Reilly Opelka 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (9/7) and Denis Shapovalov who dominated Taylor Fritz 7-6 (8 / 6), 6-3.

Since this year, the final phase of the Davis Cup brings together 18 separate teams in 6 groups of 3. The first of each group as well as the 2 best second, determined in the number of games, then sets and games won, qualify for the quarter-finals.
