03 September 2018 "Someone speaks of military intervention in response to the clashes that are taking place, I do not take into consideration the subject. It is the task of the Libyans to protect themselves and find an agreement. Our task, in this phase, must be that of facilitating dialogue, supporting it also by strengthening the bodies of the State. We learn from history, always! ".

The defense minister, Elisabetta Trenta, in a post on Facebook talks about the situation in Libya. "I believe - he writes - that we must all work in the same direction, that is to say for the cessation of hostilities and, therefore, to start as soon as possible a peace process of which the Libyans, first, are the protagonists".

"Certainly - observes the Italian Minister of Defense - it is undeniable that today the country is in this situation because someone, in 2011, put its interests before those of Libyans and of Europe itself. President Fico is right: France, in this sense, it has its responsibilities! But then again, now we all have to row together for the good and peace of the Libyan people. "
