Kerstin Westin works as a professor at the Department of Geography at Umeå University and researches, among other things, about people's travel habits linked to the climate.

- Many people strive to travel in a more sustainable way, but that it coincides with the collection and delivery of children, food documents and working hours.

Must distinguish between city and country

People who live in rural areas are often shamed for long car journeys. But according to Kerstin Westin, they have other everyday solutions that are sustainable as less consumption.

- Many grow, hunt and fish as well. We have to make a difference between city and countryside and cannot have the same medicine everywhere, says Kerstin Westin.

"Applies to getting a change in the large mass"

How do the conditions for living sustainably in the interior differ from larger cities?

- If you live in the urban areas, it is very difficult to get by without the car, but not so many people live there so it is more important to get a change in the large mass, in larger cities such as Umeå and Stockholm.
