Dr. Hani Sakla, Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Dubai Hospital of the Dubai Health Authority, confirmed that LASIK surgery is more than 99% safe, pointing out that Dubai Hospital performs about 500 operations annually.

Dr. Sakla told Emirates Today that what has been published in some media recently about complications and damage to the LASIK process is untrue, as the techniques used to perform LASIK globally 26 years ago are completely safe.

He pointed out that the global warnings of a new technology entered the health sector recently, called «Smile», which has been proven to cause damage to patients who have undergone it, warning against linking it with other technologies that have proven safety and success in achieving high success rates of more than 99%.

He said that about five million people undergo LASIK surgery annually in the world, safely, so that no complications occur only if the doctor wrong in choosing the appropriate technology for the patient.
