According to studies, the bacterial culture in the intestinal flora has deteriorated in humans. The intestinal flora contains millions of bacteria that help with digestion and protect against diseases. A person with a less varied gut flora is therefore at greater risk of contracting diseases.

“Getting more vulnerable”

One of the reasons why bacteria in the gut flora disappear is that we eat increasingly poorer, more fiber-poor diets.

- If you make your diet less fiber rich, you will end up risking the bacteria that breaks down fiber and this directly leads to a worse bacterial variation. You lose variety and become more vulnerable, says the microbiologist Joël Doré in the program World of Science - The gold in your guts.

E-topics are investigated

The researchers are also studying what effects e-substances in foods can have on the gut. Tests on mice are investigating if even food additives can cause disease. Now similar studies have begun to be done on people to see how e-topics can affect us.
