Stockholm's archipelago is the world's largest unified archipelago with nearly 30,000 islands and a unique nature. But in order for an environment to be included on UNESCO's list, it must be considered important to all of humanity, something that the World Natural Fund is now working hard to achieve.

- I think it is realistic and quite possible that the Stockholm archipelago will be on UNESCO's list and become a world heritage site, says Peter Westman.

May be Stockholm's fourth world heritage site

In Stockholm County, the Forest Cemetery, Drottningholm and Birka are already classified as World Heritage Sites. The big difference, if the archipelago becomes a world heritage site, is that it will then be considered as a whole. Now the proposal will be dealt with and then it is up to the government whether the Stockholm archipelago will be included in the World Heritage list.

- The archipelago also receives a global quality stamp that this is a unique area comparable to the Great Barrier Reef, the Grand Canyon and the Serengeti. We think Stockholm deserves it, says Peter Westman.
