"Le Mans 66", an American film about the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans French car race, took the lead at the North American box office this weekend, according to provisional figures published Sunday by the specialized company Exhibitor Relations.

James Mangold's blockbuster ("Logan", "3:10 for Yuma"), starring two American superstars Matt Damon and Christian Bale, tells how Ford carmaker has tried to revive its blazon by attacking the myth Ferrari at the 1966 edition of the famous endurance race.

This action movie, ("Ford v Ferrari" in its original version), generated $ 31 million in revenue for its first weekend of operation.

He is ahead of the ranking of the war movie "Midway" (Roland Emmerich) who returns, with spectacular scenes of aerial combat, the campaign of the Pacific during the Second World War. For its second week in North American theaters, "Midway" has raised $ 8.7 million in three days.

The podium is completed by "Charlie's Angels" (Elizabeth Banks), umpteenth adaptation of the television series "Charlie's Angels", and its $ 8.6 million for its first weekend.

In fourth place is the family comedy "Playing With Fire", in which firefighters are forced to play the babysitters, with 8.5 million.

It is ahead of another comedy, more romantic, "Last Christmas", which has raised for its second week, as the holiday season approaches, $ 6.7 million.
