A section of the original wall that for years split in two to Germany, in which a letter to President Donald Trump has been recorded, arrived this Saturday at the US border of California with Mexico, specifically, the demarcation that corresponds to San Diego and Tijuana.

The piece of four meters high and 2.7 tons was presented just a few steps from the Mexican city of Tijuana without being dismantled from the platform that supports it, with which it traveled more than 2,700 miles from the US capital.

The piece of wall was originally sent to the White House to be delivered on November 9, when 30 years after the historic fall of the Berlin Wall.

"Just in the minute that the wall collapsed three decades ago (it was delivered in the US)," said Marcos Cline Marquéz, one of those responsible for bringing the piece to this country and executive producer of the project "The Wall Against Walls" .

The White House rejected the piece, although the previous day, in Berlin, the donor foundation informed in a letter to the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, who was in that city, that the section had been sent to President Trump.

"We decided to take the piece on a tour of historic places in Washington, District of Columbia, where it was very well received by people, who took pictures, motivated by the date, when they turned 30 years of the fall of the Wall of Berlin, "said Sergio Alcocer, of The Rest of The World, in Austin, Texas, in charge of the transfer.

After consultation with the donor organization in Germany (Initiative Offene Gesellschaft, which is part of the Berlin Wall Foundation), the project managers in the US decided to take the piece to the California border, as close as possible to Mexico.

"We bring the piece of the Berlin Wall, and this coincides with all this noise over the possible political trial of the president, but the letter written on the piece of wall is not a political position but a thank you from the people of Germany," said Alcocer.

The letter sculpted in the piece says that "for decades, the United States played a major role in tearing down this wall. From John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan, the American presidents fought against him."

"We would like to give you one of the last pieces of the failed Berlin wall, to commemorate the dedication of the United States in building a world without walls," adds the letter to Trump.

The organization of "The Wall against Walls" will decide somewhere so that the piece is permanently visible to the public, said Marcos Cline Marquéz.

On the San Diego border it was temporarily located next Saturday next to one of the parallel border fences, as far as the press could access.

The piece was open to the public only until 2:00 p.m. local time on Saturday at 3260 Monument Road, in San Ysidro, California.
