First aggression on a member of the government

Never had a member of the Hong Kong executive been so violently attacked since the start of the pro-Beijing executive's protest in early June in the former British colony. The head of the Hong Kong executive, Carrie Lam , on Friday condemned a " barbaric aggression " and claimed that his minister had been " seriously injured ."

In response, Chinese diplomacy blamed the incident on the British authorities. " For some time now, some British politicians have been mixing true and false, obscuring the violent and illegal acts of Hong Kong and having direct contact with anti-Chinese rioters ," Geng said.

" If Britain does not change its behavior, if it continues to throw oil on the fire, to sow discord and incite (to disorder), it will attract the lightning on itself, " hammered the spokesperson from Beijing.

One of the most unpopular ministers

Videos shot of Thursday night's incident show Ms. Cheng on the floor, without anyone knowing exactly if she was pushed. Shortly after, she gets up and is escorted by security guards.

Shown as " deadly " by the protesters , Ms. Cheng is one of the most unpopular members of the Hong Kong government, especially since she was considered one of the main architects of the extradition bill to China, which set fire to powders in June and has since been abandoned. It is also the departments she heads which are responsible for the judicial processing of the files of the thousands of demonstrators who have been arrested since June.
