15 November 2019In Cairo meeting between the mayor of Agrigento, Calogero Firetto, Cardinal Francesco Montenegro and Pope Tawadros II, Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church and patriarch of Alexandria. The meeting lasted over an hour: among the topics, dialogue between religions and collaboration between peoples.

Tawadros recalled his visit to Rome and his meeting with Pope Francis, grateful for the Vatican's granting of the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls for the gathering of the Copts of Europe.

Also present was the Governor of Alexandria in Egypt, who with the Coptic Pope wanted to hand over the keys of the city and make a gift of an image of the Holy Family in the desert.

In view of the celebrations of Agrigento2020 the mayor Firetto formally invited the Coptic Pope in the Valley of the Temples for the 2600 years of the city's history under the banner of diversity, multiculturalism, and dialogue between cultures and religions.
