The former head of Venezuelan military intelligence under Hugo Chavez, a refugee for several months in Spain, is on the run, he is accused of drug trafficking. A week ago, the Spanish justice gave the green light to his extradition to the United States, but since the man is nowhere to be found.

The charge of Hugo Carvajal dates from 2011. According to a New York attorney, the former chief of intelligence under former President Hugo Chavez imported cocaine into the United States, more than 5 tons from Mexico .

Hugo Carvajal reportedly worked for the Los Soles cartel as a drug transport security officer. Hugo Carvajal, who denies the charges, faces life imprisonment. He fled Venezuela by boat to the Dominican Republic after being sacked by President Nicolas Maduro.

His fault is to have recognized Juan Guaido who had proclaimed himself acting president at the beginning of the year, recognized by a large part of the international community.

Hugo Carvajal, nicknamed "El Pollo" (the chicken), arrived in Spain last April. He was arrested and released in September with a ban on leaving the country. The court initially rejected the extradition request from the United States, before finally accepting it last Friday. The US authorities, learning of the flight of Venezuelan, called it a "scandal".
