- Koh Samui: A 26-year-old Spanish tourist dies while sliding down a waterfall in Thailand
A French tourist has died taking a selfie after falling down a waterfall on the Thai island of Koh Samui , local police reported Friday. The accident occurred on Thursday afternoon at this tourist spot, famous for its white sand beaches and jungle walks.
The 33-year-old fell into the Na Mueang 2 waterfall, in the same place where a Spanish tourist died in July.
"It has taken several hours to recover the body because the terrain is very slippery and steep," Lieutenant Phuvadol Viriyavarangkul explained. "His friend told us he was trying to take a selfie , he slipped and fell."
According to a 2018 study by the Institute of Medical Sciences of All India , 259 people worldwide have died from accidents while taking selfies between October 2011 and November 2017.
