The company Chemwood has been under pressure for wood products for 45 years. Rainwater and impregnation fluid have been mixed and used in tank systems below ground.

But the company went bankrupt and now the tanks are filled with rainwater and risk getting into the stormwater system and in Lake Salen, reports P4 Kronoberg. Therefore, the municipality has now sought money from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency to remove the water.

Sofia Gustavsson, environmental inspector at Alvesta Municipality, explains that the money from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency should be used in an emergency phase.

- Then we do not know what is in the soil in the form of soil pollution, so more money may be needed. We have applied for more funding to do more soil surveys.

- The bankruptcy estate after Chemwood has no funds left. We have first investigated this, explains Sofia Gustavsson.
