• Mid October 2019: People in Lebanon start demonstrating around the country against the coalition government. The government announces that it chooses to back with its proposals for higher taxes and taxation of calls through the mobile app Whatsapp.
    In order to tackle the economic crisis in the country, the coalition government agrees on a reform package, which means that former and current presidents, ministers and members of parliament will halve their financial compensation.
  • October 21, 2019: Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri says he is open for re-election but protests continue despite the government's promises of reform in the country.

  • October 24, 2019: Lebanese President Michel Aoun says he is ready to talk to protesters. Aoun wants to find the best solution to save the country from economic collapse. The protesters demand, among other things, that the government resigns. President replies by saying that there is "a need to review the current government" and that is something he wants to discuss with representatives of the protesters.
  • October 29, 2019: Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri announces his resignation. He says that the security of the country is more important than who holds a certain post. "It is our responsibility to protect Lebanon," says al-Hariri.
  • November 1, 2019: Demonstrations continue despite Prime Minister al-Hariri resigning. The country's president Aoun speaks to the people and says that the coming government should consist of experts and not be based on political affiliation.
    Banks open again after being closed for two weeks.
