Jordan's intelligence service has recently foiled plans for two people to launch attacks on US and Israeli diplomats as well as US troops at a military base in the south of the country, the newspaper said on Tuesday.

The suspects had planned to attack their targets with firearms, stabbing or carpeting, and would appear before the State Security Court, she said.

"In one of their hearings last year, the defendants were determined to carry out military operations targeting employees of the US and Israeli embassies in Jordan, in addition to targeting US soldiers at a military base in the Jafr region," the newspaper said.

The newspaper pointed out that the court charged the two suspects on charges of "conspiracy with a view to carrying out terrorist acts and promoting the ideas of a terrorist group."

The Islamic State and other jihadist groups have long targeted the kingdom, and dozens are serving long prison terms in Jordan now.

Jordan has previously thwarted an ISIS plot that included plans to launch a series of attacks on security facilities, shopping centers and religious figures. The kingdom has arrested the suspects.
