Beer producers intend to initiate amendments to the EAEU technical regulation “On the safety of alcoholic beverages” in order to open the import into Russia of strong varieties of craft beer available on international markets.

According to the legislation of Russia, beer drinks include “products with a volume fraction of ethyl alcohol formed during the fermentation of beer wort, not more than 7%”, while the share of beer should be at least 40%.

“We previously discussed this issue with Rosalkogolregulirovanie, because even in our international portfolio there are varieties that cannot be present on the Russian market because of this restriction,” said Oraz Durdyev, Director of Legal Affairs and Corporate Relations of AB InBev Efes.

According to him, this applies to Belgian beer and “complex craft”.

At the same time, the head of the Center for Research on the Federal and Regional Alcohol Markets, Vadim Drobiz, expressed doubt that stronger beer drinks will be popular among Russians.
