The National Rehabilitation Center (NRC), Dr. Hamad Al Ghafari, told the UAE today that the center plans to open a specialized clinic for the treatment of gaming addiction in the first quarter of next year at the center's headquarters in Shakhbout city in Abu Dhabi.

Al-Ghafari said that the center is currently conducting a community study to find out the extent of the problem of electronic gaming addiction in cooperation with a Japanese international center. They suffer from psychological and family diseases such as autism, disintegration, family neglect and others.

He pointed out that the clinic will provide appropriate treatment free of charge for the addiction of electronic games of citizens, while there will be a small fee for expatriates, adding that the center is currently working to train its medical staff on the appropriate treatment programs, which include individual, group and family sessions for the psychological rehabilitation of patients

He noted that the disease of addiction to electronic games has become common diseases around the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently included electronic gaming addiction in its International Classification of Diseases (ICD) as a reliable global reference for health symptoms.
