Egyptian archaeologists are trying to explore a very strange animal, possibly a lion or lioness, believed to be the origin behind the Great Sphinx of Giza, using CT scans and DNA testing of a large cat-like animal that was found.

"We will announce a discovery in November after using CT and DNA testing to study an animal we found," Egyptian Antiquities Minister Khaled al-Anani told reporters. "It is a very strange animal that looks like a big cat."

He added that the search results will be announced within the next few weeks, and may be a strange animal being searched for identity lion or lioness.

"We are opening our doors, lands and old sites to use more modern technology with our partners," Egyptian media said, quoting the minister's statement. .

The ancient Egyptians knew of their interest in animals, especially cats, and imposed sanctions on those who inflicted or killed these animals. They worshiped the cat god of half a cat combined with another half of a woman, called Bastet.
