• Last minute. General elections 2019 in Spain, live

The climate of agitation encouraged by the separatist forces to respond to the 1-0 ruling allowed ERC to revalidate the victory won on April 28 and for independence to win a general election for the second time. However, the secessionism did not obtain the expected revenue yesterday and only grew in a deputy with respect to the elections held seven months ago , when the Supreme Court had not yet condemned the leaders of the process and the violence had not yet been installed in the streets of Catalonia.

The formation chaired by the condemned Oriol Junqueras lost two deputies with respect to 28-A and remained at 13, but his decline was compensated by the irruption of the CUP, which in his first attempt obtained precisely two parliamentarians, and by the improvement in a JxCat seat, which perched until eight.

Separatism dreamed of reaching the majority of the 48 deputies that were at stake in Catalonia, but not even the exceptional climate of tension generated by JxCat, ERC and the CUP allowed them to embrace that ambitious goal . With 23 seats the Catalan secessionism was made , for the 25 of those opposed to the rupture. Not even the breakdown of Citizens, which was relegated to the last force, allowed independence to prevail in that pulse.

The independentistas only added 118,000 votes more than 28-A, despite the perfect breeding ground in which they attended and despite having added one more piece on their board with the CUP. The separatism was done yesterday with 1.6 million votes for the million and a half obtained in April, and amassed 400,000 fewer votes than the non-secessionists , who managed to overcome the two million support barrier last night.

The internal struggle of separatism yielded paradoxical conclusions. Well, despite reediting his victory, ERC suffered a corrective yesterday that casts doubt on his ability to impose himself easily in an eventual electoral advance in Catalonia. The Republicans, who had surpassed one million votes in April, lost 152,000 supports, becoming the only one of the separatist options that were contracted, as JxCat cut 25,000 votes to its great rival and the CUP burst with 243,000 votes , 130,000 more than that obtained Front Republicà, the split of the independentista party that decided to appear to the previous generals without its endorsement and that did not obtain representation.

Win, thus, the most radical secessionism, represented both by the anstisystem formation and by the neo-convergence formed by the faithful to the former president of the Generalitat, the fugitive Carles Puigdemont. Both come to Congress with the firm intention of contributing to the blockade and misgovernment and in no case to collaborate with an eventual investiture of Pedro Sánchez, who continue to reproach the application of 155.

ERC does not rule out collaborating with Sánchez

The rise of JxCat and the CUP also makes it difficult for ERC to help the socialist candidate again. Although Republicans have avoided ruling out a new abstention to favor the PSOE throughout the campaign, the punishment inflicted by the secessionist electorate after the sentence advises those of Junqueras to repeat the operation if they do not want to jeopardize their advantage over JxCat to prevail in the upcoming elections to the Parliament. Elections that ERC planned to force in the coming months taking advantage of the weakness of President Quim Torra and the thrust of demography, which places them as favorites to prevail in the Catalan contest.

Even so, the Republican candidate, Gabriel Rufián, refused last night to dismiss his support for Sánchez to return him to La Moncloa. The substitute of the disabled Junqueras said in statements to TV3 that ERC "is willing to dialogue and return the conflict to politics," and challenged the PSOE candidate to "sit at the dialogue table and open a negotiation . " "If not, he will face us," he added to clarify the president of the Government in office that on this occasion the abstention of ERC will have a high price of being produced.

In the constitutionalist block, the defeated does not admit discussion. With the exception of the formation chaired by Albert Rivera, all options contrary to secession matched or improved their results with respect to the first round of these generals. The PSC repeated in second place and remained a single deputy of ERC, despite losing 190,000 votes compared to April. The commons traced their result and, with seven parliamentarians, continued as fourth force after JxCat, the Catalan socialists and the Republicans. Both the PP and Vox got two seats, thus doubling their representation in only half a year.

The improvement of the popular and the representatives of the radical right sank the party that on December 21, 2017 made history by winning the Catalan regional elections after the unilateral declaration of independence. Yesterday, again with Inés Arrimadas at the top of the list by Barcelona, Citizens fell from five to two deputies, after losing more than 265,000 votes and being surpassed in more than 20,000 votes by Vox. The orange formation did not even achieve representation in Tarragona - one of its traditional fiefdoms - and had to cling to the old socialist red belt to survive in elections that draw an uncertain panorama for the party that, today, leads the Catalan constitutionalism.

With Arrimadas permanently displaced to Madrid, Lorena Roldán still fusing as head of the party's ranks in Catalonia and the PSC in sustained growth, the result of Citizens in the next autonomous regions is a mystery.
