Two months after the death of Sylvestre Mudacumura (military leader of the FDLR), the Congolese army announces the death of another historic leader of a Rwandan rebel group, known as "General Jean Michel Africa".

He is one of the commanders of one of the factions of the RUD (FDLR dissident) who was killed. Juvenal Musabimana, better known in eastern Congo as "General Jean Michel Africa," was killed with four of his bodyguards.

According to relatives of the RUD, Jean-Michel Africa hesitated lately to use his phone. He believed himself under the threat of a joint operation of the Rwandan and Congolese armies. He had already escaped a first attack. last month, a Rwandan journalist even announced that this RUD leader had been wounded in an ambush. A Rwandan minister was so happy on social networks to see the FARDC " clean the forests with the karcher "

Kigali had reasons to fumble. In early October, Rwandan rebels carried out a deadly attack on Rwandan soil in Kinigi. An attack that had killed fourteen civilians and 19 among the attackers, according to Kigali. Local sources spoke of a surprise attack on three positions of the Rwandan army. Elements of the RUD and the FDLR had been singled out, even though these increasingly fragmented groups had not claimed responsibility for the attack.

After the death of Jean Michel Africa, several leaders of Rwandan politico-military movements denounce " a campaign of the Rwandan army aiming to behead their leaders ". A version strongly denied in Kinshasa.

A senior Congolese army official recalls that the Binza group, where the RUD leader was killed, is far from the Rwandan border. " How can RDFs be on this side ," he says. One of the spokesmen for the Congolese army assures him that Jean Michel Africa died following fierce fighting between the FARDC and the rebels.
