The Facebook group with over 6,200 members discusses various types of problems with spirals, side effects and problems in health care, including the type that risks being broken, a copper spiral type that 5,800 Scanian women, but also women in Stockholm and Gothenburg, received between the years 2015 to 2018.

Several of the women who have been told that a bit of the spiral remains in their uterus are frustrated and worried about having to wait months or in some cases over half a year to get help or even be examined - despite Region Skåne's women's clinic doubling the reception times.

Something that is discussed among the members is to pull out the spiral itself, which women who SVT talked to who may have a copper coil of problem type are considering as an alternative. Someone writes: "Followed a piece of advice about cruising and then I got on my fingers." Another writes "I pulled out my self today. It may not be the best solution purely physically ... "and a third writes after a long discussion that" now four hours later after membership in this group the copper coil is now out! ".

Risk of infection

This information causes the acting regional chief physician Håkan Miörner to breathe - there is a risk of both bleeding and infection.

- There is nothing I can recommend. Breakage of the spiral arm occurs in connection with withdrawals and therefore I think you should do it under controlled forms.

In addition to the risk of fracture of the spiral arms, there is a risk of the spiral getting stuck in the cervix, which can be very painful. Some women get vaginal nerve stimulation and run the risk of fainting.

"Suggestions for concern"

But will it be so in 2019 that you can let people be so desperate?

- This indicates that there is a great concern that we must also address. And it is important that we increase accessibility.

Will you staff up further?

"It is the decision of the managers, but we will monitor the waiting times so that they will not be too long," says Håkan Miörner.
