Following the attention-grabbing #KuToo heel uprising - now again, Japan is debating strict clothing codes for women in workplaces. And this time it's all about glasses.

Japanese women in several industries are alarmed about how they are prohibited from wearing glasses at work, something that Japanese Business Insider has noted.

A woman working in the information desk in a large department store tells Business Insider that wearing glasses at her workplace is prohibited. A nurse who previously worked at a beauty clinic also testifies to the newspaper about eyeglasses prohibitions at work.

Did not match kimono

Now, several media outlets, including BBC News and Reuters, write about how women revolt under the hashtag "glasses are forbidden" on Twitter. It was after the Japanese television channel The Nippon TV network broadcast an element about the prohibitions of female employees at various companies that the hashtag began to trend, according to several media.

In a tweet, a woman in the restaurant business states that she was told not to wear glasses - as it looked "rude" and did not match the kimon she wore, Reuters writes. The tweet has been shared over 13,000 times.

Another Twitter user says her former employer said glasses didn't appeal to their customers, Bloomberg reports.

"If the rules only prohibit women from wearing glasses, it's a discrimination against women," Kanae Doi, director of Human Rights Watch in Japan, told Reuters.
