It was in August that residents in Balltorp started a name gathering where they demanded that the city of Mölndal do something about what they described as a wild boar invasion.

"We know that if they have kids and get crowded, they will be fatal, so we are afraid something will happen," Kristina Johansson, one of the initiators of the name gathering, told SVT West.

Several hunting teams in cooperation

In September, the name collection was handed over to the city of Mölndal, and now the municipality is stepping up the fight against the fur-lined herds. Hunters have been urged to intensify the wild boar hunt, and various hunting teams should jointly embark on large land areas to bring down the stock.

- The intention is not to shoot every wild boar. Besides, it had not gone, they are so many and it is replenished all the time. The end goal is to bring it down to a manageable number, says Ulf Reiman.

Must be driven to safe shooting locations

Something that makes hunting difficult is the fact that the wild boar moves in residential areas and bends around in gardens.

- It makes it complicated. You can not shoot where there are hooks, but you can then drive the wild boar to safe shooting places with the help of dogs, says Ulf Reiman.

"Does not help to shoot single wild boar"

Kristina Johansson is positive that the municipality is acting, but at the same time is doubtful whether it will suffice.

- We are grateful for what they do now, and really hope it will help. At the same time, we want to see more long-term goals and a continuity of work. It doesn't help if only a few wild boars are shot, it would have been good to have a follow-up to see if this really helps, she says.
