The former player and rugby leader Jean Piqué died Thursday at age 84, informed on his website the Section Paloise Top 14 club where he had made his entire career as a player.

Champion of France with Pau, Piqué was selected 18 times with the France team (1961-65). He won the Five Nations Tournament in 1961 and 1962 and took part in the first tour of the Blues in New Zealand in 1961 and then took the win against the Springboks in 1964 in South Africa.

As leader, he is in charge of the back lines of the XV of France during the historic success in New Zealand test-match in Auckland (24-19), July 14, 1979, the first French victory at the All Blacks, before to be president of the Béarn Committee and elected to the Steering Committee of the French Rugby Federation (FFR) for several years.
