The Abu Dhabi Environment Agency (EAD) has announced the rescue of 52 turtles, the detection of 128 endangered hawksbill turtles, the registration of 37 endangered sea pigs, 360 dolphins and humpback dolphins, as well as the investigation of 23 deaths of dugongs in Abu Dhabi in 2018. .

According to a recent annual report by the Authority, the number of dugongs in Abu Dhabi's nature reserves stands at 2,762, indicating a stable number. It confirmed that it conducted a survey of dolphins, during which it recorded 37 of the endangered sea pigs, known locally as `` Fima '', 92 humpback dolphins living in the Indian Ocean, and 268 dolphin-nose, where the Emirate's water is home to the largest number of humpback dolphins in the world.

Since the beginning of the nesting season of endangered hawksbill turtles at the end of March until the beginning of June last year, the Authority has monitored 128 nests in four offshore islands, with 46 nests (the largest proportion) on Jernin Island, followed by 40 nests on Dina Island. And 31 nests on the island of Zirku.

She pointed out that during the past year, she investigated 23 cases of dying of dugongs, including 18 cases of drowning, three cases for unknown reasons, in addition to two cases: one due to a boat collision, and the second as a result of drowning in illegal fishing nets (Al-Hiali).

In 2018, 52 juvenile and adult sea turtles were rescued along the coastline, including 31 hawksbill turtles, 21 green turtles and two endangered species.
