Almost a full day, without interruption. For so long, the record-breaking EU negotiations were ongoing about who will take over the top positions after this spring's EU elections. On Monday, a settlement between the leaders of the EU countries became clear.

The settlement has led to Frans Timmermans, Social Democrat from the Netherlands and Stefan Löfven's favorite candidate, being presented as a new EU Commission President. The proposal should now be sent to the European Parliament, where it will vote on the matter.

Diplomate sources at the summit talked in the morning about the settlement being close, ahead of lunchtime it could reach the public light.

Georgieva takes over after Tusk

In addition to Timmermans taking over after Juncker, it is also agreed that Conservative Kristalina Georgieva will become the new EU Council President after Donald Tusk.

Conservative Manfred Weber, from Bavaria, becomes new president. A politically liberal politician is expected to take the post of new Foreign Minister, possibly going to Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel.

On Monday morning, it was found that the talks on the new EU summit jobs are the longest sustained EU summit so far in Brussels. Thus, a record, and a longer negotiation of the mastodon-long euro summit in 2015, which was required to reach a settlement on Greece's continued future in euro cooperation, TT reports.
