Right now, the National Agency for Education is revising its course and subject plans. One of the proposed changes applies to music for the low school, which the Teacher's Journal was the first to report on.

The new proposal does not mention the national anthem, regular hymns and Swedish and Nordic children's song tradition. Instead, it says "music that ties in with the student's everyday context and musical traditions at different festivals". This has prompted both Moderates Kristina Axén Olin and the Liberals' Roger Haddad to respond, says Expressen.

- We are losing the ideal of knowledge and education in Swedish history. Important things that we base our entire history on are removed - things that bring us together, ”says Kristina Axén Olin (M), second vice chair of the education committee, to SVT News.

The National Agency for Education: It goes without saying that it remains

The National Agency for Education says that the national anthem is included in the proposed formulation - and remains in the teaching.

- It is a matter of course for us and is confirmed by music teachers we have consulted. That the word does not exist is not the same as that we have deleted the song. We want to avoid burdening the syllabus with an overly detailed level, says Anna Westerholm, Head of Department for Curriculum.

The authority is currently reviewing the referral responses received.

- If there is then a doubt about this, there may be a reason to adjust.

Decided by the government in December

In mid-December, the National Agency for Education submits proposals to the government.

Education Minister Anna Ekström (S) writes in an e-mail to SVT that she would like to go through the process of revision in committee, but that it is "impossible to withdraw a proposal that does not exist", as it has not yet received the government.
