In July 2018, the statutory requirement for investigating student absenteeism was tightened, which means that principals at schools are obliged to quickly investigate whether a student is absent for an extended period or on repeated occasions.

The investigation had to wait almost a year

But despite the knowledge that a student at a school in Kungsbacka had a large absence at the end of the spring semester 2018 and in principle the entire autumn semester 2018, a qualified investigation was only carried out in the middle of the spring term 2019.

This the School Inspectorate takes seriously and is now criticizing the school. The School Inspectorate submits that the school reviews its procedures to avoid something similar happening again.

Continued work is required

The school situation for the pupil in question has improved since May this year. She has been teaching at home for three hours a week, has passed the knowledge requirements on two subjects and on occasional occasions participated in the teaching during the fall semester.

However, it is still about teaching to a limited extent, and therefore the municipality must continue to work to improve the school situation.
