In an interview with The Economist , the French president also invited his European partners to wake up in order to maintain control of the destiny of the continent.

" NATO is brain dead, " the French president said in an interview with the British weekly The Economist .

This short sentence comes almost a month from the next summit of the organization in London, but especially at a few hours ceremonies that mark the 30 years of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

For these European leaders who are preparing to leave for the German capital, Emmanuel Macron has a message, a diagnosis on the state of Europe today. And it is severe: " Europe is on the precipice ". This is why leaders must wake up " to keep control of the destiny of the continent ".

As we know, the French president wants a European army but it gets more complicated when the Franco-German fighter plane intended to replace the Rafale remains a difficult project to implement or when Great Britain, the other great military power of Europe, still thinks of leaving and that Poland, for example, still wants to stay under the US military umbrella.

Turkish intervention

Faced with these difficulties, Emmanuel Macron wants to seize this occasion of the anniversary of the fall of the Wall to recall that in 30 years, the world has changed. " The post-89 scheme is in question, " says a diplomat. " The United States is turning its back on us ," says the president.

The Turkish operation in Syria is in his eyes " a huge problem for NATO ". The attack was condemned by the European Union and many of its member countries, without any effect.
